Likely to carry the 8900 model number when released

More details are becoming clear about the new BlackBerry Javlin, which is now likely to be known as the Blackberry 8900, rather than the 9300, as we first reported. We are not sure why RIM is making this last-minute model number change, but we do not have more specific details regarding the Javlin, which is slated to replace the ever-popular BlackBerry Curve.

The styling of the Javlin will feature a bit thinner and industrial design compared to the Curve. The biggest highlights, however, have to be the higher resolution display, which is HVGA+, offering a resolution of 480x360 and a new 3.2 megapixel camera.

The Javlin will be powered by a faster 512MHz processor with 256MB of onboard flash memory, which will give users more room for applications. As with the Curve, the Javlin will accept microSD memory cards for additional storage. The Javlin will use a micro USB connection for high-speed transfers.

The Javlin will, according to our sources, not be slated at this time to support 3G for data, but it will offer WiFi and GPS support.

From what we have seen the Javlin does borrow some of the design elements from the Bold, as well as the Kickstart to create a new BlackBerry that should be an excellent replacement for the Curve. This should be another Blackberry that will continue to help keep RIM ahead of the game.
