Still some confusion about the name

There's a lot of information on the Web about this new Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone from Asus, but no one seems to quite know what it'll be called, with names ranging from GM5, Crystal, Glaxy7 to XDA Zest with an O2 badge on it.

We have a feeling that the specs aren't set in stone, either, but after having tried to make sense of all the information we've found, it looks like it's most likely to use a Marvell PXA processor at 624MHz (Asus generally use PXA processors in their PDA phones), a yet undetermined amount of memory, possibly a 3.5-inch touch screen with 800x480 resolution using version 1.5 of Asus' Glide interface, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, aGPS, USB PC interface, a 5Megapixel camera with auto focus and a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

It's expected to have tri-or quad-band GSM support and at least 3G at 2,100MHz, but it might also get support for other frequencies and, of course, HSDPA data support. A few other interesting tidbits include a stainless steel chassis, a built in accelerometer and the use of a trackball for navigation as we've seen on a fair few devices recently.

We might not have to wait too long to find out the actual details with an expected launch date sometime in October or early November. It looks like an interesting alternative to HTC, although Asus hasn't been strong when it comes to getting network deals, so you might have to end up paying a premium for it.

More here and here.
