Affordable QWERTY Smartphone

The Motorola Q11 didn't take long to make an official appearance, and although we've given you some details about this Windows Mobile 6.1 standard Smartphone, we now have all the details for you. It turns out we were right about this being a cheaper model, and it will end up below the Q9h in Motorola's product line-up, rather than replace it.

The bad news is that there's no 3G of any kind, but the Q11 does at least support quad-band GPRS and EDGE. For those in need of a bit more speed there's also 802.11b/g WiFi, as long as you can find a WiFi network to connect to. Motorola has also thrown in Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, but there's no mention of EDR.

The display measures 2.4-inches and has a resolution of 320x240 pixels. The Q11 also has a built-in GPS receiver with GPS support and a 3Megapixel camera with LED flash. There's no mention of processor clock speeds and it doesn't seem like Motorola has noticed that Intel sold off its mobile phone CPU business to Marvell as the CPU is listed as LTE + Intel Bulverde.

Motorola has also been quite stingy with the memory, as the Q11 only has a mere 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM, although you can add up to 32GB of storage memory via the microSD card slot. Size-wise, the Q11 isn't the smallest device around, but it's at least fairly thin with the overall measurements of 117x64x11.7mm (HxWxD) and it's not too heavy at 115g.

The claimed talk time is up to 450 minutes with a standby time of about 195h, neither being too bad, but it doesn't really stand up that well against say the Nokia E71, although we'd expect the Q11 to be a fair bit cheaper than the E71, but no pricing was announced, so we'll have to wait and see.
