Not launched yesterday, as expected

It seems that the news surrounding the launch of the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac has created a lot of activity by people that monitor every move by RIM in hopes that the software will arrive. The news filtered out that it would be released yesterday, due to what appears to be a Twitter tweet that said it was arriving yesterday.

The news, according to our sources, was not accurate and it was a little bit of gun jumping by the news poster. While the Mac version is in the pipeline for release, from what we hear it could still be a couple of days or maybe even another week or so before it actually arrives. Word is that they still have a few pesky bugs to swat before the first public official release. This still has not stopped all of the leaked versions that have been floating around in various states of development.

It is somewhat surprising that the Mac version of the BlackBerry Desktop Software has generated so much interest as it is generally believed that the majority of Mac users own an iPhone, not a BlackBerry. Still, as it was explained to me by one of our sources, many Mac users have a BlackBerry provided to them by their job, and the Desktop Software for Mac has been something that a lot of users have been asking for. We will have to monitor the impact of the software after release, as it will be interesting to see how much of an impact the software will have in the Mac market after release. With the number of Mac users continuing to grow, however, it is likely a good long-term investment by RIM in getting this done if they want to continue to grow the installed user base long-term.
