Gaining on Microsoft, Apple, RIM
According to the latest figures fresh out of comScore, Google’s Android OS is becoming increasingly popular and its growth is coming at the expense of established smartphone players, such as RIM, Apple and Microsoft.

Between February and May, Google’s market share jumped from 9 to 13 percent. Over the same period Microsoft’s share dropped from 15.1 to 13.2 percent, while Apple lost 1 percentage point and ended up at 24.4 percent. RIM is still leading the market despite a drop in market share from 42.1 to 41.7 percent.

Bear in mind that comScore’s survey only covered the US market. The outfit estimates that some 234 million Americans use mobile phones and 49.1 percent of them own smartphones.
