RIM expected to have strong sales for PlayBook
Sources from the Great White North land of RIM tell us that some good news is in the air. The sales of the BlackBerry Torch have rebounded after getting off to a rocky start. Whispers suggest that AT&T’s move to drop the Torch to $99 with a two-year contract has a lot to do with the increase in sales.

The news of increased Torch sales has to make RIM feel a bit better, as this offering was expected from the start to be a significant move forward for RIM. The poor initial reviews and high price tag didn’t help the situation, but after the price cut and two additional colors from which to choose, things do appear pointed in the right direction.

RIM also has to be pleased that analysts are looking for the PlayBook to do well when released next year. Initial estimates suggest that RIM could sell between 1.8 and 3 million units in 2011, which actually isn’t a bad start for the PlayBook if RIM is able to deliver. RIM has started accepting submissions for PlayBook applications for its App World store.

RIM is hopeful that it will be able to have a significant selection of software for the PlayBook prior to launch.
