Verizon CDMA iPhone 4’s innards are different from those that previously launched for AT&T and others. While there are many minor changes, the one that caught everyone’s eye is the inclusion of the Qualcomm MDM6600 chip.

Among the minor changes are the vibrator, cable routing, board connector reshuffling, more screws, etc., but the most notable change is the MDM6600. Interestingly enough, Qualcomm MDM6600 supports both GSM and CDMA and can be found inside Verizon’s Motorola Droid Pro phones. Droid Pro devices are pretty neat for frequent travelers as they offer connectivity around the world.

This has prompted some analysts to point at the possibility of future iPhones running on all networks, which would indeed be a wise from a business standpoint. Same analysts point at Motorola’s strategy where the company released the Droid 2 and followed it up with a Droid 2 with CDMA and GSM support shortly after.

Hardware capabilities aside, Verizon’s CDMA iPhone does not come with a SIM card which means it is tied to Verizon’s network. We’ll believe it when we see it as we somehow always imagined that the only way from here is Steve soldering one’s Apple equipment to the porch piece by piece.
