Jelly Bean is Android 4.1

Play Store leak confirms

The next version of Google’s Android operating system is 4.1 rather than 5.0.

A leak on the Google Play Store all but confirmed the name, which seems to indicate that Jelly Bean will be an incremental upgrade to ICS. This is in line with what we’ve been hearing from our sources lately.

However, information is still rather sketchy. Jelly Bean should feature Google’s new Chrome browser as default, the Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be the first device to get the update and it should be a bit snappier than ICS. Needless to say, Google’s upcoming Nexus tablet is also said to feature Jelly Bean.

So, Jelly Bean should launch next week, at Google I/O, but don’t get your hopes up too soon. Only about 7 percent of all Android devices run ICS, which launched last year, so don’t expect a fast rollout. The good news? Well, as it is just an evolutionary update, many devices should support Jelly Bean, provided vendors do their job and offer timely updates, which they won’t.

More here.
