Archos is best known for making relatively affordable Android tablets and rolling out software updates at a pace that puts many big players to shame. Hopefully its smartphone lineup will also benefit from the same level of support.
The cheapest of the lot is the 35 Carbon, a $99 Android 4.0 phone with a 1GHz processor and low res 480x320 screen. It is a fair deal, but nothing spectacular.
The Archos 50 Platinum and 53 Platinum are different beasts. They are priced at $219 and $249 respectively and they feature a quad-core Qualcomm processor. However, it’s not a Krait, it is the Qualcomm 8225Q, an A5-based chip clocked at 1,2 GHz. Both phones have 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, backed by a microSD slot.
As the name implies, the 50 rocks a 5-inch screen, while the 53 comes with a 5.3-inch unit. In both cases the resolution is 960x540. Both have an 8-megapixel camera along with a front facing camera.
Hardly headline grabbing specs, but bear in mind that we are talking about some very affordable devices indeed.
