Lenovo shows off ThinkPhone by Motorola

by on05 January 2023

Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC and plenty of ThinkPad integration

Lenovo has now officially unveiled its ThinkPhone by Motorola smartphone, a perfect smartphone for the ThinkPad notebook cultists.

The ThinkPhone measures 158.8x74.4x8.3mm and features an aramid fiber back, which should be quite strong, an aircraft-grade aluminum frame, and the front is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.  It is also IP68 and MIL-STD 810H certified, making it capable of surviving a 1.25m drop and up to 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. Of course, the back has the special ThinkPhone logo and the design should go quite well with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebook.

Specification-wise, the ThinkPhone is a 6.6-inch smartphone with 2400x1080 resolution OLED screen with 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. It will run on Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and come with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage.

It is obvious that the camera system was not the focus but it still comes with 50MP main camera sensor with 2.0μm pixels, PDAF and OIS, as well as secondary 13MP camera with ultrawide lens, and 2MP depth sensor. The fron camera is a 32MP one, so it should do well with video calls.

The ThinkPhone comes with all the usual sensors and connectivity, including underdisplay optical fingerprint sensor, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G and more. It also has a 5,000mAh battery and it supports 68W wired and 15W wireless charging. You get the wired charger in the box and it can even charge up any USB-C device.

What makes the Thinkphone special is the integration with ThinkPad laptops. You get Think 2 Think connectivity, allowing you to securely sync up pretty much everything from a Thinkpad laptop and even use the phone as a webcam, or instant hotspot, and more. There is also Moto KeySafe, which keeps all sensitive data, and it comes preloaded with Microsoft 365, Outlook, and Teams mobile apps.

If it did not catch your eye yet, it also comes with a special dedicated red button (or Red Key as Lenovo likes to call it) that can be used to launch any app.

Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola will be available in the US, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Australia, and select countries across Asia in the coming months, but unfortunately, we still did not get the price.
