Samsung Electronics has now officially announced its newest 200MP sensor, the ISOCELL HP2. This 1/1.3" sensor will debut on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra flagship.

The Samsung ISOCELL HP2 is a 1/1.3" sensor with 0.6μm pixel size, which is typical to 108MP smartphone cameras and promises significant improvements in terms of dynamic range and color reproduction.

“The Samsung ISOCELL HP2 harnesses Samsung’s high-resolution image sensor technologies and know-how at the cutting edge for epic details,” said JoonSeo Yim, Executive Vice President of Sensor Business Team at Samsung Electronics. “Our leadership comes from innovative pixel technologies that allow our sensors to go beyond the number and size of pixels. We will continue to open new horizons and solidify our presence in the expanding ultra-high-resolution sensor market.”

According to Samsung, the ISOCELL HP2 features advanced pixel binning technology, called Tetra2pixel, which uses different pixel sizes depending on the lighting levels. In low-lit environments, the sensor transforms either into a 1.2μm 50MP or 2.4μm 12.5MP image sensor by binding four to 16 neighboring pixels.

It also features Samsung's new Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology that should deal with washed-out pictures in brightly lit environments by reducing overexposure by adding a second transfer gate in the pixel, expanding pixel's capacity by more than 33 percent.

The sensor's auto-focus uses full 200-million pixels for focusing thanks to Super QPD, and it also brings better HDR performance with DSG feature in 50MP mode.

As noted, the Samsung ISOCELL HP2 has entered mass production and it will debut on the Galaxy S23 Ultra launching on February 1st.
