Cebit 2009: For overclockers on a budget

While lurking around Asrock's booth we noticed that the company had its latest motherboard on display, the M3A790GXH/128M. Asrock launched this board just a few days prior to the show, and it's a socket AM3 board based on AMD's 790GX + SB750 recipee (this isn't cooking class Ed.).

The board boasts an all solid capacitor design, has a 2,600MHz (5.2 GT/s) Hyper-Transport 3.0 bus and will support CPUs up to 140W. Supported processors are AMD Phenom II X4 / X3 and Athlon II X4 / X3 / X2 processors, but don't count on 920 and 940 models. This board should be a decent and affordable option for DDR3 adopters who're keen on some overclocking, as this board should pack a decent overclocking punch for the money.

It offers dual-channel DDR3 1,600/1,333/1,066/800MHz support and comes with 128MB of DDR3 1,333MHz side port memory for the integrated Radeon HD 3300 graphics. Those who're not keen on integrated graphics should know that the board supports CrossFire configurations up to 3-way CrossFireX.

The M3A790GXH/128M features three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots (green x16, blue x8, orange x4), one PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, two PCI slots, seven SATA II connectors, a header for a FireWire port and three headers for six additional USB 2.0 ports. The I/O panel features a PS/2 port, a D-sub, DVI-D, HDMI, a FireWire port, an eSATA II port, six USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, optical SPDIF out and 7.1-channel analog audio jacks.

The board also supports ASRock's Instant Boot technology, which is a nice feature that will help decrease your boot up time, Smart BIOS and ASRock OC Tuner. We found it priced at €114,90 at geizhals.at, and although it seems there's none in stock yet, when it's available it should be a decent board for those who are still planning on switching to a DDR3 AMD platform, despite the minimal benefits.
