Computex 09: Gigabyte adds a wealth of other new features

Gigabyte have been busy ahead of this years Computex as the company has come up with a wide range of interesting products, like the P55-UD5P which is the most feature packed P55 motherboard we've seen so far at the show.

The board has six DDR3 memory slots, however, this doesn't mean that you'll be able to run triple-channel, as the four blue slots are limited to single-sided memory modules. Other interesting features on this specific board will include 6GB/s SATA support thanks to two additional controller chips, but as you can see from the pictures below, the chips are missing from the demo board at the show.

Then there's the memory chips you can see on the picture below, these will sadly not be used on the final retail version, as you'll have to wait for the P57 model for these to appear, as rather than using an ONFI slot, Gigabyte is considering fitting the flash memory directly onto the motherboard. On top of that the board should also feature USB 3.0, which is yet another new technology which isn't quite finished as yet.

One interesting thing Gigabyte is working on is a new way of taking advantage of the onboard TPM or Trusted Platform Module, as in the past you had to use a USB key with it. However, now Gigabyte is working on a way that will allow you to store the key on your mobile phone and connect it to your PC via Bluetooth. This allows the PC to lock your personal folder if you keep your phone with you when you step away from your computer.

Also expect to see larger capacity BIOS chips from Gigabyte, as the company is working on some fancy new software that will allow you to store certain security data like passwords in the BIOS chip, so when you log in using the new TPM solution, all your passwords will be accessible without you having to worry about them being stored on the hard drive of your system.

Finally the board features simpler things like a pair of combo USB/eSATA ports which allows you to power certain low power eSATA devices. This board also has a 6-phase quad lane VRM design, dual Gigabit Ethernet, three x16 PCI Express slots, although they operate in x8, x8 and x4 mode if all three are being used and a whole lot more.
