by on25 January 2011

Motorola’s first tablet will be $699

One of the darlings of this year’s CES was the Motorola XOOM tablet offering. It looks like Best Buy will be one of the first to offer it, when it arrives on February 17th. The Android 3.0 powered tablet will go for $699.99 when it shows up on Best Buy’s shelves.

The XOOM, which is Motorola’s first tablet offering will offer a 32GB of on board storage, but it is $100 more than the 32GB iPad. The unit will offer Verizon 3G support as well as Wi-Fi, but Motorola is quick to point out that a 4G LTE model is coming at some point in the second quarter when it upgrades the hardware.

The unit is powered by a 1GHz dual core CPU that can handle full 1080p playback. It also includes a 3 megapixel front facing camera and a 5 megapixel rear facing camera. The unit uses a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and, of course, it is a touchscreen display.

The XOOM attracted a lot of attention at CES for its Android 3.0 Honeycomb-powered tablet feature set combined with a very nice and accessible design. While we are not sure about the price, we have to think that based on the feedback we continue to hear about this unit that it will be one of the first major Android tablet offerings to watch.
