Snapdragon 820 reference device looks snappy

Runs Android 6.0

Qualcomm has shown us the reference devices for the new Snapdragon 820 and the tablet and phone was rather snappy as it ran Android 6.0.

Qualcomm’s reference design  phone was a 6-inch phablet with high resolution screen. Fudzilla saw the test device which was based on the latest version of Android, Marshmallow and it did not run hot. We could not get the exact specification of the device but it looked like the screen is at least 2560x1440 – definitely higher than 1080p.

The phone worked really snappy during all demos and our short time with the user interface. The same thing can be said for the tablet reference design. The 10-inch tablet has a 3840x2160 or 4K screen in a 10-inch format, it also had a removable battery. All phone demos were quite snappy and stable, and they worked as designed.

The 10 inch tablet realistically ran a render of a modern home demo powered by Unreal 4 engine. This demo was absolutely amazing even rendered at 720p and not at the full resolution.

The device worked well during the demo or the Unreal 4 engine and also rendered 4K video capture demos.

The time to market of the actual devices will depend from Qualcomm partners but it should not be long. Early 2016 sounds like a good time and there should be some major announcements in Q1 2016, or just in time for Mobile World Congress 2016 in late February.
