Sony denies working on its own chips

And we are not selling our mobile division either

Sony has been at the centre of a few rumours lately and it appears that Sony Corporation President and CEO Kazuo Hirai has had to go on record with a fairly big list of denials.

Firstly, Sony does not want to shaft its chipmaking partners by developing its own in-house chips.  It is not clear where this one started, but it appears that analysts believe that because Apple and Samsung are making their own chips, then Sony must follow suit.

Kazuo denied that any chip plan is circulating at Sony HQ but it does not appear that Sony wants to invest in its mobile division as this would mean throwing more money at its weakest assets.

The second rumour Hirai squashed is that the electronic giant has no plans to sell off its mobile division.

The reaons that these rumours have been running around is because Sony plans to increase profits by restructuring its business. Anyone looking at Sony's smartphone business would suspect it would be better off flogging it to the highest bidder.  We are not sure how much of a saving Qualcomm could make by adapting is own ARM based chip, but if Apple saved money doing it then anyone can.

Kazuo said that it was not those sorts of savings that he had in mind for his restructuring. Sony will create products tailored to specific countries and regions.  So a British sony phone will cope with the rain, a Saudi phone will handle the heat and Wahhabism and the American one will convert to an automatic which fires armour peircing rounds, we guess.
