AMD reveals first Ryzen 7 7800X3D game benchmarks

by on13 March 2023

Up to 24 percent faster in some scenarios

AMD has now officially released the first official gaming benchmarks for its Ryzen 7 7800X3D SKU that is scheduled to launch on April 9th.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D could be the most interesting SKU as it is the only one of the three SKUs that does not come with the so called asymmetric chiplet design, but rather packs a single CCD with 8-cores/16-threads and 3D V-Cache slapped on top if it. It works at 5.0/4.2GHz clock and packs 104MB of cache, all for a rather neat price of $449, which could be yet another reason why it could be AMD's bestseller and even put some pressure on AMD's own lineup, let alone Intel's counterparts.

AMD's own benchmarks, spotted originally by Tomshardware.com, puts it against the Intel Core i9-13900K, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is anywhere from up to 13 to 24 percent faster, depending on the game that AMD picked. This is rather surprising considering that AMD actually aims at the Core i7-13700K with the Ryzen 7 78003DX, but if it ends up faster than the $580 price Core i9-13900K, it is a rather interesting SKU and also $130 less expensive. The Core i7-13700K, which AMD usually puts the Ryzen 7 7800X3D against, is currently priced at $405. Previously, AMD did show some gaming benchmarks, but only comparing it to its previous generation but not Intel counterparts.

The same set of slides put the same CPU against the previous generation, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, showing the new SKU to be anywhere between 21 and 30 percent faster, at least in games that AMD picked out. Other slides show the performance of other AMD Ryzen 7000X3D series SKUs against the Core i9-13900K, but all eyes are now on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

Of course, take these results with a grain of salt, as we would rather wait for some full reviews that could show a clearer picture, and April 6th is just a few weeks away.
