The Ryzen 9 7945HX goes against Core i9-13950HX

AMD has announced the availability of its Ryzen 7045HX-series Dragon Range CPUs for high performance gaming laptops. These Zen 4 Dragon Range 5nm chiplet-design chips, should be enough to get ahead of Intel's 13th gen Raptor Lake counterparts, at least according to AMD.

While AMD has previously revealed some benchmark figures, the latest one puts its flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX against Intel's 13th gen Core i9-13950HX, which is a decent comparison of two current gen chips, although Intel still has the Core i9-13980HX flagship SKU up its sleeve, so there are still some questions left unanswered.

In case you missed it earlier, AMD's Ryzen 7045HX-series Dragon Range has four SKUs, including the flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX 16-core/32-thread beast with two CCDs (Core Chiplet Dies), working at 5.4/2.5GHz clocks, featuring 80MB of cache, and 55W+ TDP. It is closely trailed by the Ryzen 9 7845HX, which is a 12-core/24-thread SKU, also a dual-CCD design, packing 76MB of cache, 5.2/3.0GHz clocks, and the same 55W+ TDP.

These are followed by single-CCD SKUs, the Ryzen 7 7745HX, an 8-core/16-thread SKU, with 40MB of cache, and 5.1/3.6GHz clocks. The bottom of the table is the Ryzen 5 7645HX SKU, a 6-core/12-thread SKU working at 5.0/4.0GHz clocks, 38MB of cache. These two also have the same 55W+ TDP.

The latest performance figures, released by AMD, shows AMD pulling ahead of the Intel counterpart by around 10 percent, on average. The laptops compared were the Asus Strix Scar G17 gaming laptop, which, in addition to the flagship Ryzen 9 7945HX 16-core/32-thread CPU, also comes with 32GB of DDR5 memory, and, ironically, a Geforce RTX 4090 graphics card, and the Gigabyte Aorus 17X, with similar specifications and with the Core i9-13950HX.

Hopefully, as these Dragon Range laptops should now be available, we should see more reviews which are not coming from AMD or Intel.
