Review: A useful gadget

Now and then some companies offer gadgets where we have to ask, "What where they thinking?" Scythe, on the other hand, surprised us with something indeed useful. While there are plenty of fan controllers with LED displays, there isn't any temperature measurement-equipment from any vendors. At least there were none, now Scythe has it.

Scythe come up with the "Kama Thermo Wireless" which is a IR temperature tester. Due to its low price, it has only an accuracy of +/- 2°C. But to check out several temperatures on your board, for example, the Northbridge heatsink, it's enough. Its range goes from 0°C to 100°C, so it can measure your graphics-cards without problems.

The special feature of this device is the USB port, so you don't need any battery when the CR2032 inside the device fails. As a bonus, you get an LED backlight which is shut down during battery operation.

Pushing the button for three seconds when powered off, it allows to change from Celsius to Fahrenheit. Some odd countries do indeed measure in this ancient unit. Wherever you buy it, you can use it. In the package you will also find a low reflective black tape, because shiny surfaces will not deliver accurate results.

We think this gadget is really useful. For only €13 Euro you can buy it either in white or black. A similar device in an electronic shop will cost you about €20 but without a USB or LED backlight. Better, more accurate devices are far more expensive.

A longer USB cable would fit nicer for bigger cases and already cut low reflective tape for instant use would be nice ,too. Besides this minor annoyances it has earned our Top Value Award for doing its job at a very affordable price.
