Sony claims PS3 is "the official industry leader"

Seen the charts lately?

In a recent interview, Sony's chairman Kazuo Hirai recently told the Official Playstation Magazine that they don't consider Microsoft and Nintendo as competitors, as they see the PS as the official industry leader. Although he quickly mentioned that he didn't use sales numbers to come to such a conclusion, we were still a bit mystified as to how did he get to it then?

Apparently, Mr. Hirai laughingly said that Xbox 360 lacks longevity and, impressively enough, that Nintendo’s console isn’t a competitor either as Nintendo is a “different world”. Well, I guess they aren’t quite happy when worlds collide on the sales chart, as these non-existent ghosts of competition currently have the upper hand.

He also mentioned how PS3’s complex architecture, which has caused many grievous nights for the developers, is something that the company has planned with and implemented intentionally, as it would take developers more time to take advantage of its full potential. We’re guessing that’s the PS3's longevity advantage that he bashes Xbox 360 for, but we’re not sure how’s this wise, or advantage for that matter.

More here.
