Android market share continues to soar

Google’s Android mobile OS is on the up and up. According to the latest figures, Android handsets accounted for more than 35 percent of worldwide smartphone sales.

According to Canalys, this is Android’s second quarter in the lead. Interestingly, the largest jump was witnessed in the Asia Pacific region, 98 percent year-on-year. It is worth noting that the region has become the world’s largest smartphone market.

Global smartphone shipments grew 83 percent to 101 million units, 35.7 million of which were Android products. Interestingly, Nokia is also doing well in Asia and it is still the number one brand in mainland China.
