Man updates Facebook in midst of hostage standoff

Utah man Jason Valdez held a woman hostage for 16 hours and seems to have found it very convenient to update his Facebook page during the tense standoff with law enforcement.

It all ensued after police tried to serve a felony drug warrant to Valdez in an Ogden motel. He then locked himself in the motel room with a girl hostage and stayed there for 16 hours.

During the standoff, Valdez used Facebook to say his goodbyes and even found time to post pictures. After posting "I'm currently in a standoff...kinda ugly, but ready for whatever", he followed up with a few pictures and a status that read "Got a cute 'Hostage' huh".

Some of his friends warned him about the SWAT team in the bushes. Most of them advised him to surrender. Others just liked his status.

After SWAT stormed the room, he shot himself in the chest and is reported to be in critical condition while the girl is unharmed. We’re not sure whether he updated his security settings.

He should've posted something a little more appropriate like "BRBFBI, LULZ"

And you are definitely part of the retarded side of the human spectrum.

No wonder the world thinks we (I live in the US) are idiots. I read an article about this and supposedly his girlfriend stuck by him voluntarily, but that doesn't make it any better. He should have just let them arrest him, now he's definitely going to prison, for way longer than he would have, and has to live with bullet in his chest. I bet his medical bills will be in the tens of thousands at least. He should have just saved everyone else the drama and shot himself in the head.
Link to a story, since Fud never includes it (I don't think its their "source"):
