Globalfoundries plans 14nm production in New York

by on30 August 2011

32nm and 28nm on track
Newly appointed Globalfoundries CEO Ajith Manocha showed a slide that Glofo’s New York State Fab 7 is going to start production of 32nm and 28nm wafers once it goes operational. We expect to see the first chips sometime next year.

The more interesting fact revealed today is that the Malta fab will evolve to 20nm production, not 22nm as many have expected and that the next node after that is 14nm, rather than 15nm.

Intel on the other hand is about to start 22nm production this year and actually start selling its 22nm Ivy Bridge chips by March / April 2012, months ahead of Globalfoundries.

AMD already said that it will make 28nm Krishna CPUs next year and most likely it will go 20 nm and 14 nm with upcoming designs. Bear in mind that actual availability of 14nm chips is still years away.
