Acer said to be working on $99 tablet

A lot of those in the works apparently

First we heard rumours of a $99 Nexus tablet, then Asus leaked its ME-172V last week and now it’s Acer’s turn to do a few rounds in the cheap tablet rumour mill.

Wall Street Journal reports that the Taiwanese outfit is working on a dirt cheap tablet, dubbed Iconia B1. Thanks to a post over at benchmark.rs, Serbia’s top tech forum, we have some pics as well.

The B1 is a 7-incher with a 1024x600 screen, dual-core Mediatek 8137T processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage and microSD. Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS are also on board and poster claims it will sell just north of €100.

It doesn’t sound half bad for the price, but in case you just don’t want an Android tablet, Acer’s got you covered. The company is also planning to introduce a cheap Windows 8 tablet next year. Although it will be based on Intel, it should end up a bit cheaper than first-gen Windows 8 tablets.
