Nexus 5 available in non-Nexus counties

Written by Fuad Abazovic

For a €50 premium of course

Google Nexus devices are getting better with every new generation, there is no question about it. The Nexus 4 has evolved into a beast powered by the fastest SoC around and it’s got LTE to boot.

The only issue is that $349 for 16GB and $399 for 32GB version are available only in select markets via Google Play. These include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea, markets traditionally supported by Google Play.

Some smaller markets such as Austria can get Nexus devices via etail or retail shops where the device ends up more expensive. Austrians can get the new Nexus 5 16GB for €399 which is a good €50 more expensive than what the German Google Play consumer pays. You can order one here and this shop will ship it all over Europe.

Amazon has been doing the same thing for years. It won't ship Kindle tablets in non-Amazon countries and despite the facts that Austria had an Amazon store, until this year it was excluded from getting Kindle Fire tablets. It’s got to do something with the content and licensing music and movies, legal stuff we’d rather not get into.

With killer specs and almost everything you want your phone to have, including a full HD 5-inch screen, 2GB of RAM, sufficient storage, decent camera and the fastest CPU available we don’t see why this shouldn’t become the best-selling Nexus phone of all time. Google got it right this time but of course many will be whining about the lack of removable battery and micro SD slot.

At the same time Nexus 4 16 GB has dropped to quite attractive €299 in most of smaller markets, but not at the German Google Play that had it removed it from the shopping cart.
