by on05 September 2014

Still selling for US $179.99

Motorola has finally unveiled its new and improved version of the quite popular Moto G. While it got some improvements and a bigger 5-inch screen, Motorola decided to keep the Moto G at the exact same price point of US $179.99.

Although still running on Qualcomm's 1.2GHz clocked quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC with Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM, the new Moto G 2014 got a bigger Gorilla Glass covered 5-inch 1280x720 touchscreen, which lowered the pixel density from 329ppi on the "old" Moto G, down to 294ppi on the Moto G 2014. With a bigger screen, the Moto G also grew slightly to 141.5x70.7mm but it also got thinner at 11mm. The weight also grew from 143g on the old Moto G to 149g for the new Moto G.

The new Moto G 2014 also got a bit more storage as it will be available with 8 or 16GB of internal storage which can now be expandable via microSD card slot, something that has been a big issue with the old Moto G. Cameras on the new Moto G have also been updated so the main rear camera is now an 8-megapixel f/2.0 one while front one is 2-megapixel one.

The new Moto G 2014 will be running on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS and have the same 2070mAh non-removable battery as the predecessor. It also got a pair of front speakers.

The most important feature of the new Motorola Moto G 2014 is that it managed to retain its, US $179.99 for the 8GB and US $199.99 for the 16GB version, price. This still makes the Moto G one of the best bang-for-buck Android smartphone on the market.

The new Moto G 2014 will be hitting certain markets including the US, India, France, UK, Brazil, Spain, and Germany as of today, while the rest of the markets should get it before the end of the year.
