Major setback for Project CARS

by on20 October 2014

Confirmed as delayed till March next year

Rumors having been swirling over the last several days that Project CARS developer Slightly Mad Studios would be delaying the November release of the game for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC till next year. Word was that a post in the funders forum had already let the cat out of the bag so to speak. Still we were unable to confirm this as official.

Now we have learned that Project CARS publisher, Bandai Namco has now officially confirmed that the game will not make its announced release November 18th, but instead is now being pushed out till a project release of sometime in March of 2015. Additional specific as far as the actual release date will be announced at a later date, closer to the project March 2015 release.

Slight Mad Studio head Ian Bell said, “Whilst a tough decision to make, the change in release date allows the game the greatest chance of success and visibility, and the opportunity to polish the game even further to the high standards that both ourselves and our community demand and expect. We’re eager for you all to see what we’ve been working on in just a few months."

Our sources tell us that some of the “code” in what Bell said is a tactical decision to delay the release because of heavy competition from other titles that were to release in the same November time frame as Project CARS. It is unclear if the pressure to move the release date came from Bandai Namco or it was an internal decision driven by Slightly Mad Studios. We don’t really know and doubt we ever will, but the fact that GTA 5 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is releases at the same time would not be a good situation for Project CARS.

The additional time will give the developers more time to polish and test the finish product. It will also give them time to continue the development of the promised Wii U version that was announced as delayed till next year. There has been no word yet on what impact if any there will be on the projected release of the Wii U version of Project CARS. We suspect however that they will continue the plan of a Wii U release after the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC version is released.
