AMD’s GPU and Intel’s chipset

ATI is working hard with Intel to offer what we call switchable graphics for notebook users. It wouldn’t be so surprising if it weren't for the fact that AMD works hard with Intel to offer its mobile GPUs for Intel notebooks.

Intel will enable switchable graphics, where ATI’s GPU will work when the machine is plugged in to the power socket; while the Intel IGP will kick in when you are on battery power.

Naturally AMD will have this for its own CPUs in the Puma platform, but it will be offered and accepted for Centrino, as there is a need for better graphics performance.

It is still unclear if Intel will offer a Centrino-like platform with switchable Nvidia graphics, but it is highly likely to happen, as well.
