Nvidia still quiet about VIA-based platform

Only talks about Tegra

Nvidia didn't want to give any comments on its chipset and platform based on VIA CPU. Nvidia showed and pre-announced such a platform and cooperation at Computex in June 2008, but at this time there are not any products that the companies can show.

Nvidia's chipset powered by VIA CPU is supposed to go after Atom, as everyone wants to crush Intel's dominance in this huge netbook market. There is a big chance for VIA + Nvidia alliance, as Intel simply cannot get enough of Atom CPUs and there is a huge shortage of Atom-based small notebooks as we speak, and there are little chances that the shortage will be over before Xmas. Nvidia and VIA hope that cosumers will go after multipedia and HD power that they can offer to its customers and Atom can't.

At the same time, we did learn that Tegra won’t go for notebook and that Tegra is exclusively meant for MIDs and mobile phones, and let me repeat it again, it comes in Q1 2009 in a retail store next to you.
