Waits with bated breath
AMD's acquisition of ATI Technologies will finally bear fruit today as the Spider platform product is released.
Spider is designed for desktop PCs and comes with a new processor, AMD's quad-core Phenom chip, the new 7-series chipsets, and new graphics chips. It will also coincide with the release of two Phenom FX processors launching Monday, which are essentially desktop versions of AMD's Barcelona quad-core processors.
So far AMD's release, which is a breakthrough for the company which hated platform releases, has been greeted with great optimism from the IT press. Spider will be launched through channel partners and not through the likes of HP and Dell.
