Viridian out early
Microsoft has released the first Beta of its Hyper-V server virtualization hypervisor.
Codenamed "Viridian," the Beta was not expected until early next year. It runs on the x64 version of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition. Viridian is a micro OS that sits on top of the server hardware and permits an additional OS to run on top. It has a lot to compete with. There is EMC's VMware and Citrix's XenSource.
Mike Neil, general manager of virtualization strategy said in his blog that Microsoft Hyper-V will provide Microsoft customers with a great platform on which to build virtualization solutions.
It will be incorporated into Windows Server 2008, Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter.
