Nicked £100,000 worth of lead
A Brit pleaded guilty for stealing £100,000 worth of lead roofing, and he says he used Google Earth to locate his loot.
Tom Berge, a 27-year-old builder, pleaded guilty at Sutton Magistrates
Court, and received an eight-month suspended sentence and 100 hours of
community service.
Detective Sergeant Chris Grant says Berge was a responsible for
numerous thefts, and claims "figures for theft of lead have reduced
significantly" since he was nabbed.
Berge's friend says the lead thief used Google Earth to scour south
London for suitable buildings to be stripped of their roofs. This is
probably not what Google developers had in mind when they were
stitching satellite photos of London together.
