Still waiting for European approval
Acting as the father of the bride, the US Justice Department has given
Oracle's plans to take over Sun Microsystems its blessing.
The deal was agreed back in April, but it still needs European
Commission approval before it can be finalized. Under the $7.4 billion
deal, Oracle would get control over Java, and that fact raised a few
gray haired eyebrows in regulatory bodies around the globe.
The deal should be finalized soon, at the end of the summer probably,
once Eurocrats run out of cheese and wine and get back from their
Mediterranean holidays.
