New graphics cards and expansion modules
Matrox has launched a couple of new graphics cards and a couple
of graphics expansion modules with DisplayPort support. This is the
first time we see DisplayPort on Matrox gear, and professional users
will probably be very pleased to hear the news.
The new Matrox M9138 and Matrox M9148 DisplayPort graphics cards pack
1GB of memory and offer triple or quad monitor support, with
resolutions of up to 2560x1600 per output. Of course, you can still use
DVI monitors in case you've got some old stuff laying around your
studio. Both cards are passively cooled.
The company has also launched the Matrox DualHead2Go DisplayPort
Edition and TripleHead2Go DisplayPort
Edition Graphics eXpansion Modules. The new modules support DisplayPort
and two or three monitor configurations with support for up to three
displays at 1680x1050. Although they can practically turn your notebook
into a workstation, we just don't think 1680x1050 is enough in this niche market. Of course, if you're editing 720p or PAL, it's good enough, but most people demand full HD nowadays.
