RIM looking at reported BB 7 hardware failures

by on21 November 2011

Finally, the mother ship confirms the problem

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has finally confirmed that the user reported issue with BlackBerry OS 7-based models Bold 9930/9900 and Torch models 9850/9860 not powering on reported by users is an issue for a limited number of customers. RIM is currently actively working on a software update or fix to address and solve the issue.

While the problem apparently has been around for a while, RIM is just getting around to issuing a known issues report on the problem. Sources tell us that the problem has already been resolved in the latest stock that is headed to carriers, but old inventory could still have models that exhibit the problem.

RIM does not seem to want to explain at this point what the issue is, but RIM does offer a 1-year replacement warranty on these as well as other BlackBerry models. Owners might want to consider talking to their carrier and getting the unit replaced if they are having issues.
