Cheaper than the non-3.5G version

The Acer One has become one of the most popular netbooks on the market, even beating Asus' Eee PC in some markets, and it looks like Acer is getting ready to steal even more of that market away from Asus, as the 3.5G version of the Acer One has just launched in Taiwan.

The model on sale has Windows XP Home, comes with a 160GB hard drive and a 6-cell battery. The bigger battery should appeal to those wanting to use their netbook on the go, as it should offer pretty decent battery life; although the weight of the whole system with the 6-cell battery is 1.26kg, which is a bit heavier than most netbooks.

However, with a built-in HSDPA/HSUPA model with download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mpbs (network dependent, of course) we can imagine that a lot of people are willing to carry that slight extra weight around with them compared to a model with a 3-cell battery and shorter battery life.

But the real deal here is the price, the 3.5G models are selling for a mere €303 (US$383/£253), which is €47 cheaper than the non-3.5G version on sale in Taiwan with the same specifications. We'd expect the 3.5G versions to turn up elsewhere in the world shortly.
