This new notebook CPU is aiming for 50 percent more CPU performance compared to the 7th gen APU. This is a lot, but it is what we expected too, as the general IPC improved in Zen cores and it was logical that the same happens for mobile too.
One great announcement is that Ryzen mobile comes with Vega graphics and it will be much faster than the AMD’s previous generation of mobile APUs. You can expect to see around a 40 percent performance increase.
Ryzen Mobile is aiming for 2 in 1 platforms, where performance per watt plays a big role. It's also going after the Ultraportable and thin and light markets, where battery life plays a big role.
Of course, AMD always wants to get into the gaming part of the market, indicating that there will be a more powerful CPU and graphics combination that is aimed at gaming notebooks.
Anderson, an ex-Intel VP, also mentioned Ryzen PRO for the commercial market. This a special version of a CPU for the corporate market that will play by stricter rules. This is more like a platform, similar to what Intel calls vPro, and it is a combination of a CPU, BIOS, a special motherboard chipset and a software stack.
Zen Mobile should be available for consumers in the second half of 2017 and the commercial market is likely to be able to source them in the first half of 2018.
