Not really a big deal

The debate over exactly how many discs the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII has is now answered. The discussion has been sparked by the fact that the PlayStation 3 version of the game will ship on a single Blu-ray disc; and since the Xbox 360 only supports the DVD format, it has been known that it would take multiple discs to house the content for FFXIII.

The mystery is at an end, with our sources confirming that Square Enix in the U.S. has told them that the Xbox 360 version of the game will arrive on three discs. The use of multiple discs for role-playing games isn’t a unique situation, as previous games in this category have been shipped using multiple discs. (Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are the first that come to mind, and I think those were on four discs!)

Multi-disc game releases are becoming more common on the Xbox 360 platform these days, with many high profile titles arriving on more than one disc. Of course, in combination with the hard drive, it normally does not make much of a difference between multi-disc and single disc experience. We expect this multi-disc trend to continue on the Xbox 360 platform to continue as content grows larger.
