Medal of Honor has a 3M sales target

by on13 September 2010

Soft sales will equal no sequel
Electronic Arts has a pretty sizeable sales target for the rebooted Medal of Honor title that is arriving this October. Apparently, EA has set a sales target of three million copies for the title; and if the title isn’t able to deliver three million in sales, then the likelihood of a sequel is questionable and probably is not going to happen.

The title has been hit, with a firestorm of questions regarding some content in the game that has drawn attention to make it controversial at best. The source of all of the ire is the ability to play a Taliban solider in the multiplayer mode. It seems that the fuss has caused a number of retailers to back away from the title, and the U.S. military is banning the sale of the title from on-base GameStop stores.

EA has invested a large amount of money in the new title, including bringing in DICE to handle the multiplayer part of the game. The company isn’t backing away from the controversy and has defended the title publicly. According to our retail sources, the title has received a fair number of pre-orders, but it is still difficult to tell exactly how successful the title will be. The new Medal of Honor is also coming out just ahead of the new Call of Duty: Black Ops which will arrive in November; and it remains to be seen how well the title can do going nearly head to head with Call of Duty: Black Ops.
