With the Firecoder Blu card

It seems like the SpursEngine from Toshiba is starting to gain popularity despite a lot of early doubts if there really was a need for a dedicated video processor card in today's computers. Now video editing specialist Canopus has gone and added a card to its product line-up based on the SpursEngine.

The Firecoder Blu as the card is called has already made an appearance on Canopus Japanese website and it's expected to go on sale in the US sometime next month. The card looks quite different from the Leadtek card, as it has a much larger cooling setup and it vents the hot air out through the back of the PC via a slotted rear bracket.

With support for Canopus software and interoperability with other Canopus hardware, it seems like the SpursEngine has been given a big boost in terms of software support, more so with regards to software that is actually used by video editing professionals.

The expected retail price for this card in the US will be $599 (€461/£390) which puts it in the professional video market, so anyone that was hoping to see an affordable consumer product is going to have to wait.
