Radeon HD 7800M and 7700M SKUs

AMD has published details regarding its new HD 7000M lineup at its site and although it appears that the HD 7970M will be the only SKU in the HD 7900M lineup, the HD 7800M will have two while the HD 7700M will have three SKUs. That adds to a total of six SKUs in the HD 7000M lineup that will be based on 28nm GCN architecture.

The Radeon HD 7800M series, codename Heathrow, will be based on the Radeon HD 7870M and Radeon HD 7850M SKUs. As noted earlier, the Heathrow is based on a fully enabled Cape Verde GPU (HD 7700 desktop series) with a total of 640 stream processors, or simply 10 GCN Compute Units, 40 texture units and 16 ROPs.

While the desktop Cape Verde, aka HD 7770 is clocked at over 1GHz, the mobile parts will have a much lower clocks. The Radeon HD 7870M is set to work at 800MHz for the GPU and 1000MHz (4.0GHz effective) for 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 128-bit memory interface while the HD 7850M works at 675MHz for the GPU and at same 1000MHz (4.0GHz effective) for the same 2GB of memory.

The HD 7700M series, codename Chelsea, is, as previously detailed, based on a "crippled" Cape Verde core (same one behind HD 7750 desktop part) and features 512 stream processors, or 8 CUs, 32 texture units and same 16 ROPs. As it was revealed yesterday, the HD 7700M series lacks PCI-Express 3.0 support and will stick to PCI-Express 2.1 x16 bus interface as it is mainly aimed at lower performance platforms and performance gain between PCI-E 3.0 and PCI-E 2.1 was simply to low.

The HD 7700M series kicks off with the Radeon HD 7770M SKU that works at 675MHz for the GPU and features 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at the same 1000MHz (4.0GHz effective) and paired up with the same 128-bit memory interface. The lower clocked HD 7750M works at 575MHz for the GPU and yet again features the same 1000MHz (4.0GHz) clocked 2GB of GDDR5 memory.

The last is the bugdet HD 7730M SKU that will work at "between" 575 and 675MHz and will feature up to 2GB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 900MHz (1.8GHz effective).

While the HD 7970M has already showed up in Alienware's M17x, we expect that the rest of the lineup will start to appear in various notebook models pretty soon.
