Still no detailed specifications

Videocardz.com managed to get their hands on a couple of pictures of the upcoming AMD Radeon R9 285 Tonga GPU graphics card from various AMD add-in-board (AIB) partners, including Sapphire, XFX and HIS.

Despite these few leaked pictures, we still do not have precise specifications for the upcoming R9 285 graphics card as it is still not clear if it will have 1792 or 2048 Stream Processors. What is pretty sure now is that we are looking at Tonga Pro GPU which will have a 256-bit memory interface connected to 2GB of GDDR5 memory (although some partners might make a 4GB version as well). We also managed to confirm that there will be a Tonga XT GPU later, but we will talk about that a bit later when we manage to get a bit more information about it.

The pictured AMD Radeon R9 285 graphics cards from Sapphire, XFX and HIS are pretty much the same as all three feature dual-slot dual-fan cooler and two DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort output configuration. Also interesting is the lack of "standard" Crossfire connector as the R9 285 feature XDMA Crossfire, same as the R9 290 series.

Reported GPU and memory clock speeds are set at 918MHz for the base GPU clock while memory will work at 1375MHz (5.5GHz effective).

Sapphire's pictured R9 285 will feature Sapphire's Dual-X dual-fan cooler and will use the design which we already seen on some of the earlier Sapphire graphics cards, and same will most likely go for all other AMD AIB partners. XFX R9 285 is part of XFX's Dual Dissipation (DD) series while HIS R9 285 will be a part of the company's IceQ X2 lineup.

The R9 285 Tonga GPU based R9 285 and the rumored Tonga XT graphics card should completely replace the Tahiti GPU based lineup, the R9 280 and the R9 280X, and offer slightly higher performance with much lower power consumption. Since we already have a few pictures, the R9 285 should launch fairly soon.
