AMD tells etailers Radeon prices didn’t change

by on10 October 2014

But the numbers speak for themselves

It looks like the AMD Radeon sales team is experiencing some trouble in paradise as it has issued an official statement to its partners, completely denying the recent price cut.

Despite the fact that we saw Radeon 290 and Radeon R9 290X cards listed for $299 and $399 and Newegg still has them listed at these prices, AMD is denying the move.

No price protection

AMD isn’t giving its customers any price protection on the Radeon R9 290X and Radeon R9 290 that they have in inventory. The company suggests customers should talk to their local AMD contact or work with their AIB. AMD denies the price change and calls it a "Q4 sell out program" that should accelerate channel sales to end users.

AMD does indicate that there will be some price changes and that that Radeon R9 290X will drop as low as $369. For example, Sapphire has its SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC 100361-2SR Radeon R9 290X 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card listed at this price.

Radeon R9 290 is selling all over Newegg and other places for $299+, while the Radeon R9 280X is selling for as low as $259. Asus has a promotion selling the card for $239.99 after a $20.00 rebate card.

AMD suggests higher prices

AMD suggests that Radeon R9 285 should be selling for as low as $249 and XFX is offering its XFX R9-285A-CDFC Radeon R9 285 2GB 256-Bit DDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card for $229.99 after a $20.00 rebate card.

The Radeon R9 280 should be selling for $209, as this is AMD's suggested etail price. However, Newegg has MSI's R9 280 GAMING 3G 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card for $169.99 after a $30.00 rebate card.

Last but not least, the Radeon R9 270 still has a suggested etail price of $189, but the SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100365L Radeon R9 270 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card With BOOST & OC sells for $159.99 with a $10.00 rebate card.
