Palm's upcoming smartphone that has so far been known as the Gandolf, has finally been given it's retail name and it will hence forth be known as the Palm Centro.

Note that this is not a Treo device, it's a completley new type of smartphone from Palm. It's initial version will be US only as it supposedly has EVDO support, a system similar to 3G or HSDPA.

It's also the smallest handset from Palm to date and the tiny keyboard is aparently very hard to use with two thumbs unless you have very small thumbs.

The good news, if you live in the US at least, is that it's expected to retail for US$99 with a contract, which is cheap for a device of this type in the US market. It will initally be available on Sprint, as they have a 90-day exclusive on the Centro.

You can check out a supposed picture of the Centro over at Engadget.
