If they want to fiddle a bit
Users of the HTC HD2 smartphone can now install Android 2.1 Eclair on their Windows Mobile 6.5-based handsets. XDA Developers, which report that Android port for HTC HD2 is now available for download here.

Alas the best is not ready for the great unwashed to use as it is still being tested. However the fact that they have managed to port Android onto the Windows Mobile-based phone is news.

The way they did it was to patching a CPU bug which prevented HaRET from running. HaRET is needed to set up the Linux-Kernel before installing the Android OS.

The developer team also managed to get Android 2.1 and Windows Mobile 6.5 booting at the same time. You might want to make back-ups of their files and before you go ahead with it, but Android 2.1 is a lot better than Windows 6.5.
