So far, could be the best BlackBerry of them all
Reviews of the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 are starting to appear; and while many have already written the company off and their market share has been eroding, if the early reviews of the 9900 are any indication then RIM might be on track with the 9900 to hold fans over till the QNX OS models arrive next year.

The early reviews have a lot of positive things to say about the 9900. It is thin and uses real metal, finally, and while it doesn’t have the sizzling screen of an iPhone, the screen on the 9900 is quite good. The new powerful 1GHz processor clearly makes a significant difference, as the phone apparently feels downright snappy, according to the reviews that we have read. The stop gap version 7 of the BlackBerry OS is better and according to a number of reports, it has been highly optimized and much of the bloat and crap is gone, which has given the 9900 some help in the performance department.

The biggest complaints seem to be around the sound and audio, which normally isn’t an area that RIM gets wrong. We suspect that RIM will tweak the audio and sound in an upcoming minor revision. Unlike many Smartphones, RIM still is getting the battery life right, with battery life still better than most Smartphones out there today.  (RIM did apparently go from a 1,500 mAh battery to a 1,200 mAh battery, which makes this all the more impressive.)

The design is better than we have seen out of RIM in a long time and almost makes you forget that this was the same company that brought us the Touch and Flip. We suspect that once it is in wide release it will become the standard for many corporate IT shops, and the replacement BlackBerry that BlackBerry users will want. All of the usual carriers that normally get RIM will be getting the 9900 or the 9930 in the weeks ahead. We are hearing, however, that you can expect to pay a little more than you expect for it, at least right out the gate.
