The latest Android distribution share numbers are in. Google has eight significant Android releases spread across the market and some of the oldest ones made it to the pie chart.

The smallest amount of Android phones run Froyo Android 2.2, which can be found  on 0.5 percent of devices. It is followed by Android 2.3.3 to 2.3.7 codenamed Gingerbread that still powers a significant 9.1 percent of all Android devices. Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 is on 7.8 percent of the Android install base, while Jelly Bean is still the most dominant Android distribution.

Jelly Bean is spread across three different sub versions and Android 4.1.x has 21.3 percent, Android 4.2.x has 20.4 percent while Android 4.3 is on 7 percent of Android devices. Together they account for 48.7 percent of Android devices.

Android KitKat 4.4 version is on 33.9 percent of devices, which is impressive considering that this was the last major Android release until Android 5.0 showed up a few weeks ago. Android 5.0 still doesn’t show up on the pie chart, as it is probably still on under 0.1 percent of devices. This will change soon.

Compared to a month ago, KitKat adoption grew 3.7 percent, Jelly Bean declined 2.2 percent, Ice Cream Sandwich fell 0.7 percent while Gingerbread and Froyo are down 0.1 percent.

We will be seeing more and more Android 5.0 making devices hitting the market and this version will be on all upcoming flagship phones are set to launch in Q1 2015 and beyond.
