Sony rumoured to have a 4K phone at MWC

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 under the bonnet

Sony’s mobile efforts have been sliding lately, particularly in the US, but the outfit is rumoured to be preparing a rather interesting smartphone for MWC.

Apparently it will be a 4K smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 under the bonnet.

Sony has not confirmed the phone, obviously but it has said it is going to MWC. The rumours are that it will be showing off between two to four smartphones at the event.

One is certain to be the Sony “Yoshino” that will feature a 5.5-inch 4K display and is powered by the Snapdragon 835.

Sony has tried to release a 4K display phone before. The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium appeared in 2015 and it did not really live up to its billing. The display would switch back and forth between Full HD depending on the situation and the task at hand.

The rumour about the chip might not hold water either. Word on the street is that Samsung has bought every Snapdragon 835s it can find.

But if the rumour is true ,then a 4K display with a Snapdragon 835 chipset could put the fear of god into Samsung and a few others. We just would not expect there to be that many around.
