Propus-based 3.0 and 3.1GHz

AMD plans two new Propus-based quad-cores that don’t have L3 cache on them. This native cacheless core with TDP of 95W is out for a while and in Q2 2010 it will first time reach the 3.0GHz.

The currently selling Athlon II X4 635 is the fastest of all Propus cores and it works at 2.9GHz and as of early Q2 2010 the Athlon II X4 640 clocked at 3.0GHz should overtake it. The specification of this core are same as ever, you can expect 2MB of total cache, no L3 cache, and DDR3 1333 support as well as AM3 socket.

Roughly one quarter later, in mid-Q3 2010 AMD plans to launch yet another Propus based quad-core and this CPU will end up with Athlon II X4 645 brand. It works at 3.1GHz and will be the fastest Propus that is currently planned for 2010.

AMD is stuck with 45nm processors, while its rival Intel is happily shipping 32nm dual-cores, a full year before AMD can start selling its 32nm products.
