Software King of the World, Microsoft, has issued a patch so buggy that it has needed another patch to fix it.
Windows 11’s first 2026 security updates wrecked shutdowns and Remote Desktop logins, so Redmond rushed out an out-of-band fixes KB5077744 and KB5077797, to clean up the mess.
The fixes are available via Windows Update and are rolling out to everyone, with Vole promising shutdown and Remote Desktop login should work normally again once installed.
This is the kind of blunder that makes you wonder what Vole is even testing, because “turn it off and on again” is not meant to be a product feature.
It also lands on top of a pile of recent Windows 11 update faceplants, including Task Manager failing to close properly and slowly chewing through resources after repeated opens and exits.
File Explorer has had its moment, flashing users with a bright white screen in dark mode after an update that was meant to improve dark mode.
Microsoft even shipped an update that broke the Windows Recovery Environment so badly that recovery options could not actually recover anything.
